An Airtight Lid Traps Air
Every sealed jar keeps new air out. The air already inside is what stales your coffee. Press the pump built into this lid a few times and it draws that air out, leaving the beans in a partial vacuum rather than a sealed box of oxygen.
You Can See The Seal Working
The indicator on the lid drops as the vacuum holds, so you know it has sealed rather than hoping it has. If it has risen again by morning, the gasket wants a wipe, and it is almost always a coffee ground caught on the rim.
Not Only For Coffee
Loose tea, nuts, flour, cereal and anything else that goes soft or flat on contact with air benefits from the same treatment. The 460ml takes a 250g bag of beans; the 1800ml is for bulk buys and cereal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need batteries?
No. The pump is manual - you press the top of the lid several times by hand. There is nothing to charge and nothing to fail, which is the argument for the hand pump over a motorised one.
How long does the vacuum hold?
Days rather than hours, assuming a clean rim and a clean gasket. In practice you re-pump each time you open it for coffee, which takes a couple of seconds and becomes part of the morning.
Which size for a 250g bag of beans?
The 460ml holds a standard 250g bag of whole beans. Ground coffee packs denser, so the same bag ground takes less room. Go to the 700ml if you want to tip a bag in without measuring.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
Hand wash the body and wipe the lid rather than submerging it, since the pump mechanism and the gasket do not want to be soaked. Keep the gasket clean and the seal keeps working.
Is a vacuum better than a normal airtight jar?
For coffee, noticeably. Staling is oxidation, so removing most of the oxygen slows it in a way that simply sealing the lid cannot. For rice or pasta the difference is far less, and a plain airtight jar is fine.
